This is the event that separates Christianity from all religions. The tomb Jesus was buried in was sealed shut with a boulder and guarded heavily by Roman Soldiers. After Jesus had died, the women came to His tomb 3 days later to embalm Him (Luke 24:1-7). But Jesus was not there. Even when the woman came to tell the disciples that He was risen they did not believe them, but thought it was only a story that they had made up, nothing more than non-sense (Luke 24:11). His own brothers, James and Jude, didn’t believe He was the Messiah either (John 7:5) until they saw Him resurrected (Acts 1:14 & 1 Corinthians 15:7). History tells us that the authorities tried to give every other conceivable explanation to explain why His body was missing. For example, they said that the disciples came and stole the body. But they never explained how they stole the body. And no warrants were ever issued to arrest any of the disciples. The soldiers said they fell asleep while on duty but they were never reprimanded for sleeping while on duty, when the penalty for a Roman soldier for such an act was death. Furthermore, what court in the land would take as a credible witness, someone who was asleep while the crime was committed? If Christianity was taken into a court of Law this movement would have had over 500 “eye witnesses” for its defense in the case of the Resurrection. The Bible tells us that there were over 500 witnesses who saw Jesus resurrected from the dead. Because History is decided by legal evidence it would be a great event if we could put Christianity on the stand. We could determine once and for all if it is the truth or a lie. What better test than to have Simon Greenleaf put the Gospel accounts to the test in the court of Law to see whether the claims of Christianity are true or not. Simon Greenleaf was the founder of the Harvard Graduate School of Law and was one of the world’s greatest authorities on evidence. His “Rules of Evidence” are still being used today throughout the U.S. Court systems. Simon Greenleaf was asked to put Jesus and the resurrection to the test. He studied all the testimonies and reviewed all the facts, discarded everything that was inadmissible and concluded that based upon the evidence, the resurrection is as established as any event you can find in history. The most dramatic proof for the Resurrection was the fact that this event literally transformed the disciples from men that were afraid, and hiding behind locked doors (John 20:19), to leaders willing to be persecuted and die for their faith in Jesus (Acts 4). Few men will die for the beliefs, but no man would ever die for a lie.

3 Evidences for the Deity of Jesus Christ (Part 2)

Jesus fulfilled over 300 prophecies:
Jesus fulfilled over 300 prophecies that no one else could have ever came close to.
There are approximately 456 Messianic passages in Scripture, supported by more than 558 references from the most ancient rabbinical writings. There are at least 109 separate and distinct prophecies Messiah must fulfill. A mathematician calculated the probability of even 20 of the 109 prophecies being fulfilled in one man. He came up with odds of one in one quadrillion, one hundred and twenty-five trillion! There is no room for imposters with these numbers. The Old Testament predicted the very town He would be born in, where He would live as a small child and where He would live as a young man. The Old Testament foretold of where His ministry would be, and what the outcome of His ministry was. It foretold of Him being born of a Virgin, and that He would be God in the flesh. He would die on a Cross for the sins of His people and be buried in a grave and then be raised from the dead. The New Testament confirms that all of these and many more were all fulfilled in the person of Jesus Christ.

3 Evidences for the Deity of Jesus Christ (Part 1)

Jesus had supernatural ability:
The first recorded miracle that Jesus did was at a wedding feast in Cana, where He changed water into wine. This is where He first “manifested His glory, and His disciples believed in Him” (John 2:11). Jesus gave the blind their sight (John 9:1-41; Matt. 9:27-31; Mark 8:22-26). He gave the deaf their hearing (Mark 7:31-37), the mute were able to speak (Mark 7:35). Jesus healed the crippled (Matt. 9:2), the epileptic (Matt. 17:14), and even a man’s withered hand (Matt. 12:9). He healed lepers (Matt. 8:2; Luke 17:11) those who had fevers (John 4:46) even a man with dropsy (Luke 14:1) Jesus healed a woman who had been hemorrhaging for twelve years (Matt. 9:20). Jesus proved He had power over the demons by constantly commanding them out of people (Matt. 8:28; 9:32; 12:22). Jesus raised people from the dead (Matt. 9:25). One young man was being carried to the tomb, dead as a doorknob, and Jesus brought him back from the dead (Luke 7:12-15). When Jesus raised His friend Lazarus from the dead, His enemies did not even deny it, but they tried to kill Him because of it, saying, “If we let him go on like this,” [performing miracles] they said, “everyone will believe in him” (John 11:48). Jesus had the power to heal the sick without even seeing them. There were cases where Jesus was in one city while the sick person was in an entirely different city and He would just speak the word and they would be healed (John 4:46-64; Matt. 8:5-13). Jesus also showed His power over nature itself by calming the winds and the seas. His followers cried out, “Who then is this, that He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him?” (Luke 8:25). Jesus walked on water (Matt. 14:25) and even enabled His disciple to do the same (Matt. 14:29). Jesus fed a crowd of 5,000 with only 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish (Matt. 14:13-21), and another 4,000 people with only 7 loaves of bread and a few small fish (Mark 8:5-9).
